1 v. (various pagings) : ill., maps (some col.) ; 18 cm.
The Sterling Morton Library of the Morton Arborertum
This pocket size guide to tree identification is convenient to carry and gives even a novice naturalist the ability to recognize trees through their leaf shape. Unlike the confusing keys used by botanists, Watts used plain language and illustration to walk the reader through the steps of tree identification. The original guides were mimeographed sheets used by her students at the Morton Arboretum. This copy was housed in the botany department of the Chicago Teachers College.
Nature Study Guild Publishers was founded by May Watts and her husband Raymond in their Naperville, IL home.
The Tree Finder is still being published by the Nature Study Guild Publishers and continues to be used as an educational tool. The company is now located in Rochester, NY and operated by the Watts' granddaughter.
